The short version: Leaf is free to use, your notes are yours, and Leaf Pro is a subscription you can cancel at any time. Leaf keeps your notes on your computer, so please export anything you can't afford to lose.

Who these terms are between

These terms are an agreement between you and the developer of Leaf ("we", "us"). They cover the Leaf extension for Chrome, Leaf Pro and the website at leafnotes.co. By installing or using Leaf, creating an account or buying Leaf Pro, you agree to them, and to our privacy policy. If you don't agree, please don't use Leaf. You can reach us at support@leafnotes.co.

You need to be at least 13 to use Leaf. To create an account or buy Leaf Pro, you also need to be old enough where you live to make this agreement, or have a parent or guardian agree for you.

Free Leaf

Leaf's free features are offered at no cost, as they are. Your notes are saved in Chrome on your computer, not with us, so they're in your hands: if Chrome's data is cleared, the extension is removed or your computer fails, they can be lost. Export them from Settings now and then. We may improve, change or retire free features over time.

Your notes are yours

Everything you write in Leaf belongs to you, and we claim no rights to it. If you use sync, you allow us to store, copy and transfer your notes only to keep them in sync across your computers. We don't access them, we don't sell them, and we never use them to train AI.

Accounts

You need an account only for Leaf Pro. You can sign in with Google or with a code sent to your email. Keep access to that email or Google account secure, since anyone with it can sign in to your Leaf account, and tell us if you think someone else has used it.

Leaf Pro

  • Leaf Pro costs US$3 a month or US$30 a year, plus any sales tax or VAT, billed in advance. It renews automatically until you cancel.
  • It's sold through Stripe, which acts as the reseller and merchant of record: Stripe charges you, handles tax, and its own terms also apply to the purchase.
  • You can cancel at any time from the billing page. Pro stays on until the end of the period you've paid for, and doesn't renew after that.
  • Payments aren't refundable, including for partly used periods, except where the law requires a refund or as set out below under "If we stop offering Leaf Pro".
  • If the price changes, we'll email you at least 30 days before the new price applies to you.
  • If you dispute a payment with your bank, we may end Leaf Pro on that account.
  • When Pro ends, its features stop. Your notes stay on your computer, and the synced copy on our servers is deleted 90 days later. If you subscribe again, Leaf uploads your notes again.

Using Leaf fairly

Please don't use Leaf to:

  • break the law, or store or share content that infringes someone else's rights
  • try to get into other people's accounts or data, or get around Leaf's security or limits
  • overload, disrupt or attack Leaf's servers, for example with automated requests
  • copy, resell or reverse engineer Leaf Pro, or pass Leaf off as your own

Ending an account

You can stop using Leaf at any time, and delete your account from Leaf's Settings under Delete account. Notes on your computer stay there until you delete them or remove Leaf.

We may close a Leaf Pro account for any reason with at least 30 days' notice, and Pro stays on until the end of the period you've paid for. If an account breaks these terms or the law, or puts Leaf or other people at risk, we may suspend or close it straight away. Either way, the notes on your computer are untouched.

If we stop offering Leaf Pro

If we ever stop offering Leaf Pro or sync, we'll give you at least 30 days' notice and time to export your notes, and refund the unused part of any period you've paid for, unless insolvency or events beyond our reasonable control prevent it.

No guarantees

We work hard to keep Leaf fast, reliable and your notes safe, but no software is perfect. Leaf, Leaf Pro, sync and this website are provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we make no promises beyond those in these terms, including that Leaf will always be available, free of errors, or that notes will never be lost. Please keep your own export of anything important.

Limits on liability

To the extent the law allows:

  • we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, or for lost data, profits or time;
  • if you use Leaf for free, we aren't liable to pay you anything in connection with Leaf;
  • if you have Leaf Pro, our total liability for all claims about Leaf is limited to what you paid for Leaf Pro in the 12 months before the claim;
  • if you misuse Leaf or break these terms and someone makes a claim against us because of it, you'll cover our reasonable costs.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, or takes away rights you have under consumer protection laws that can't be waived.

The law that applies

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, and disputes go to the courts of Ontario. If you're a consumer elsewhere, you keep any protections and any right to bring a claim at home that your local law gives you.

Changes and the rest

We may update these terms. When we do, we'll post them here and change the date at the top. For significant changes, Leaf Pro subscribers get an email at least 30 days before they apply. Using Leaf after a change means you accept the updated terms.

These terms and the privacy policy are the whole agreement between us about Leaf. If any part can't be enforced, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce a part straight away, we can still enforce it later. We may transfer these terms if Leaf is ever sold or passed to someone else, and we'd tell account holders first. Questions are welcome at support@leafnotes.co.
